Position Open Director of Youth Ministry:
The overall guidance for this position is to develop a comprehensive ministry focused on youth, maintaining a balance of mission, fellowship, Bible study, and worship in all aspects of the position.
Some representative responsibilities of the Director of Youth Ministry are:
- To recruit leadership from within the congregation and work with the Pastor to provide training to equip both adults and youth;
- To develop solid relationships with and be personally available for support and spiritual guidance of youth, including an expectation that the Director will regularly attend school and community events in support of the youth and their activities;
- To keep the Pastor apprised in a confidential manner of ongoing pastoral issues with youth and their families;
- To assume primary responsibility for coordinating youth fellowship programs in conjunction with the Pastor and the Christian Education Committee;
- To identify, and recommend curriculum and resources to the Christian Education Committee and Pastor for use within the youth program;
- To work in close cooperation and meet weekly with the Pastor;
- To encourage youth to participate in the life of the congregation through attendance at and participation in worship, music, stewardship, and other areas of service;
- To reach out to youth in the community who are not presently involved in a church;
- To submit monthly reports to and attend meetings of the Christian Education Committee and to write a monthly report for Session about youth activities;
- To publicize and communicate activities to the congregation through oral announcements in conjunction with church services as well as providing information for inclusion in the Reflector, website, and weekly bulletins, and to do so in a timely manner;
- To develop a communication piece specifically for the youth of the church, to be sent on a regular basis, but at least monthly;
- To be available as a liaison between the youth and the general congregation of the church.
- To attend Sunday worship;
- To coordinate Vacation Bible School with the Christian Education Committee; to coordinate mission trips with the Mission Committee;
- To adhere to the personnel policies of Fallston Presbyterian Church and abide by its confidentiality agreement.
In the first 90 days, the Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for (1) developing and implementing a ministry with young adults, (2) making direct contact with all middle and senior high youth who have previously participated in FPC programs, and (3) developing (not expecting implementation in 90 days) a ministry for our youth (elementary through senior high). Emphasis is to be placed on reaching out to youth not presently involved in a church.
