Children's Sunday School
What is The Story?
The Story is a condensed chronological Bible which will help us see God’s story in a way that is easier and more relatable. Each week, we will read a chapter (about 12-13 pages), and Pastor Kimberly will preach on themes from that chapter. Everyone will also have the option to join a small group which will further study the chapter of the week and its messages for our lives. The children’s Sunday School program will follow the same path, so that parents and children will be discussing the same parts of Scripture.
Why is it important to read The Story?
Many of us have never read the whole Bible, and although The Story does leave out some parts, like the book of Leviticus, it makes the big picture of how God relates to us as His people, His creation, more powerful and real. We'll get the chance to look at God's big picture, as well as how our lives fit into that big picture. If you have wanted to think about the purpose of your life and how God relates to you, or if you're curious about the Bible, but haven't been able to read the whole thing yet, this is for you!
What if I can't be there all the time?
Neither can we! The story begins September 11, 2016, and ends May 21, 2017. No one will be present for all 31 weeks we're doing The Story, and we do take breaks over the holidays. But you can continue to read your chapter at home, and we'll be posting audio files of the sermons each week on the website. It is easy to keep up if you're not physically present every week.
What materials do I need?
We have materials ready for you. The Story in hardcover is available for adults. We also have books for preschool, younger elementary, older elementary, and teenage children and youth. Study books are also available for the small groups.
How are families involved?
Families will be able to be involved together in The Story. During worship, the children will have Sunday School based on a story from that week's chapter. They will come home with trading cards and parent pages each week. The parent pages offer activities and discussion questions for the dinner table which will help bring what everyone has learned on Sunday right into the rest of the week.
Does this cost anything?
It's up to you. We are accepting donations for the study materials, but no one needs to pay anything to receive the study materials. The Story is important, and we want to be sure everyone has access to it!
